Why Intelligent Ink?
Creatives and deep thinkers come to us for book coaching when they’re ready to share their thought leadership with the world. With years of experience across the industry and the book process, we can help you strategically position and develop your book, hone your audience, and focus your content.
When you work with us 1-on-1, you’ll not only get support every step of the way – you’ll also get the chance to deepen your thinking and strengthen your ideas.
Our process is focused on quality and strategy above all else. We don’t just ensure you succeed – we make it impossible for you to fail. Our coaching model is simple.

How it works
We’ll tailor our schedule to meet yours. We’ll meet with you every week to two weeks (depending on your pacing) for coaching and development sessions. In the background, we’ll make sure you have all the support you need for publishing, marketing, and launch.
Scalable pricing. Unlimited potential.
We understand that everyone works differently. And that everyone writes at different paces. That’s why we do our very best to tailor our pricing and timelines to suit your ideal project length.
Most of our authors aim for an 8-12 month project – 1 month of strategic planning, 6-10 months to write with 2-3 coaching sessions per month, and 1 month to edit. By the end, they have a publisher-ready manuscript.
Typically, the full cost for the entire project including coaching and editing support is around $32,000-45,000.
How does it work?
What is a thought leadership book?

Books are a powerful vehicle to drive change, and we specialise in transformational books that have a real impact on both the people who write them and the people who read them. Thought leadership books celebrate out-of-the-box and game-changing or boundary-pushing ideas that drive meaningful change in a particular industry or area.
Our goal with every book project is not only to encapsulate your expertise in the best possible way – but also to help you solidify your reputation as a visionary in your field.
What a book can do for you
The possibilities are endless but our clients have leveraged their books to:
- Gain more paid speaking opportunities
- Generate leads for more high end (and higher paying) work
- Create new paid offerings based off the ideas and thinking in their book
- Generate media coverage and greater awareness
- Become podcast guests and get in front of new audiences
- Grow their social media connections and followings
- Gain entry into bigger clients who they may not have been able to access previously
- Become known as thought leaders in their industry if they weren’t already

FAQs
We like to say that if you’re having these thoughts, you’re exactly the right kind of person to be writing a book. These kinds of questions and doubts indicate a level of self awareness that shows you’re already thinking critically about your potential audience and messaging. That being said, we complete some qualifying in our initial catch-up to help you establish what you want to say and whether or not you have the experience and original insights to contribute to the conversation on your topic. Or you can download our free Book Topic Test checklist to sense check your idea.
Every project is different. Some of the factors that affect your timeline include:
- How much research is required
- How many interviews or case studies you want to conduct for your book
- Hours you can consistently set aside each week for writing
We recommend setting aside about 10-15 hours per week to work on your book if you’re aiming to finish the manuscript within 6 months, or 6-8 hours per week if you’re planning on taking a bit longer. Timing will of course depend on how quickly you write, how long your book will be, and how clear you already are about your ideas.
There’s no one right way to write your book. But here’s our short-hand advice:
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly option with more frequent check-ins, a group program like the Better Book Project is probably best for you. Authors who value lots of diverse feedback and collaboration typically get the most out of a group setting.
If you’re looking for a tailored option where you can get editing and 1-on-1 support throughout the process, a coach is probably a better option for you. Authors who value personalised support and mentorship will likely prefer 1-on-1 book coaching.
Unsure what’s the best route for you? Just book a call with us and we can walk you through it.
Of course! As thinking partners and editors, we’re here to support your ideas – not claim them. We have an in-built NDA with our coaching agreement to ensure that your ideas, your intellectual property, and your stories are fully protected. Following the manuscript completion, you maintain 100% copyright ownership of the work and all future profits or royalties it accrues (note that this may change depending on the publisher you choose to work with).
Book coaching is a very personal, meaningful, and occasionally vulnerable experience for an author – and it is so important to work with a writer who you can trust through the whole process.
In our sales process, we’ll match you with the person on our team who we think will be the best fit for you personally and professionally. You’ll have the chance to talk to your book coach before starting the project too!
We get it. Life happens. Book writing is hard. And sometimes, other unforeseen things take priority. There are a few options if you decide to pause your manuscript writing:
- We may be able to suspend or lengthen your contract, or work out a way for you to pause payments while you take the time you need. This is subject to circumstance, but we usually find a way to make things work!
- We can support you with ghostwriting. This is a great option if the reason for pausing your work is due to a lack of time or getting too busy. We often find that after coaching for a while, we know the author and their thinking so well that we can very smoothly and seamlessly transition into writing partners.
- You can join one of our group programs to stay connected to your project in a more relaxed and less intensive way. Our Think Tank group is designed for thought leaders and authors to come together, share ideas, and hold each other accountable. This is a great option for temporary breaks from the book writing process.
In short, while we encourage authors to start the coaching process at a time when they can commit to the whole book journey – know that there will be options and flexibility along the way.
For most thought leadership books (40k to 60k words) and authors writing at a consistent pace, we are usually confident that the total price of coaching will end up around the $35,000 mark. The longer, more involved, or slower the work, the higher the overall cost will be.
Unlike our ghostwriting pathway or our group program, our coaching services have scalable pricing to reflect each individual’s needs, pacing, and book goals.
The best way to get an accurate quote is with a conversation with our team.
One of the most unique parts of our one-on-one book coaching process is that we edit chapters as you go. Not only does this help ensure you’re staying on track and organised with your writing and your ideas – but it also means that the process as a whole goes quicker. Usually, after writing a full draft without ongoing editing, there is much re-writing that has to be done. Restructuring, adding in details, fixing elements, etc. can take a lot of time – and huge editing budgets.
But with a trusted editor and book coach working on your manuscript while you write, you can be sure that your first full draft will be in great shape. This means less time between finishing your book and being ready for publication.
When your full manuscript is compiled, you’ll get another Inker – a fresh set of eyes – to add another layer of insight, depth, and editorial expertise.
While we do not publish works in-house, we are well-equipped to set you up with the best in the business in your local market. Our past experience in the publishing world also means we can help answer questions as you have them, and help you screen and choose the right partners for the next stage of your book journey.
