Laura Heynike
Author of The Pumping Entrepreneur

As Laura Heynike was becoming a new mum, she found herself dealing with more than sleepless nights and food aversions. The founder of Pocketspace Interiors – specialists in maximising interior design – also dealt with financial pressures and the unspoken biases of “pregism” in the workplace. Wanting to create the resource she wished she’d had – a loose manual on balancing business with baby – Laura turned to Intelligent Ink for support.

The result is The Pumping Entrepreneur. Part memoir, part toolkit, this book is an account of Laura’s ups and downs, how pushed through barriers and biases, and a guide for preparing your business for maternity leave.

“I approached Intelligent Ink to help write my book because I needed accountability to keep pushing me to get a chapter out even when I felt like I had no time. I think to write, publish and narrate the audiobook in one year is a great time-based achievement. What worked well for me was writing a chapter a month and for Intelligent Ink editing that for me while I was onto the next one.

“At some points I would second guess whether my story was worth telling – and then the edited chapter would come back better than I had imagined. Once it was completed, I felt proud, but also grateful that I can share my experiences with anyone in the world if they wanted. I defined success as helping 50 women find confidence and security in their pathway of being an entrepreneur and mother – it’s heartwarming whenever I hear about how the book made a difference.”
